My Stye Remedy

I don't know the exact reason, but once in a while, it happens.

When I woke up in the morning, I felt something in my right eye, and it was hard to open.

My eyes were itchy all day yesterday, and it isn't like a seasonal allergy symptom. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary, just rubbing my eyes. Then, I found out that my lower eyelid is red like ruby and started to get a bit swollen.

Aww, I got stye.

According to my favorite doctor, WebMD.com, "most of the time, you can treat a stye at home. First, apply a warm compress to the affected eye for 10 to 15 minutes 2 to 4 times a day for several days. After applying the compress, use your finger to press on the inflamed bump to unplug the oil gland. Doing this will ease your pain and inflammation and help the stye go away faster.

Keep your eye closed while you use the compress. When stye comes to a head, please continue using the compresses to pressure it until it ruptures. Then, don't squeeze it -- let it burst on its own. Sometimes stye spreads infections when they pop. If that happens, you'll have to take antibiotics."

Also, there are safety concerns. Please check your own.

1) Chamomile is generally safe to use. However, you have to be cautious if you have allergies to marigold, ragweed, daisy, and chrysanthemum.

2) If you're taking any blood-thinning medicines, like coumarin, it's best to ask your doctor first before taking chamomile preparations in high amounts for prolonged periods. It is because chamomile may enhance the effect of your drugs.

I usually make organic Chamomile tea (see the pic).

This remedy was taught by a teacher from my esthetic school when I got stye. I did that night. The next day, it was 80% gone. In my case, usually, it takes three days to go back to normal again.

  • One organic chamomile tea bag in a 1/2 cup (4 oz) of boiled Distilled Water and steep for about 30 minutes. Easy!

When I use this remedy, the stye seems not to grow and soothes away in just a few days. I use a q-tip or cotton to soak, and I don't apply it too long at once. Just keep applying every 15-20 minutes tho. (Do not double-dip!!)

My first application today was two hours ago, and the itchiness is already gone, and the feeling of the bumpy decreases.

It's a bummer that I don't have any pictures! (It's hard to take a pic by myself - it was all blurry and non of them get to qualify to share :/) It took three days to recover though.

Side Note: I kept it at room temperature and use it as often as I remember. At night, I stored it in the fridge. There is no specific info for Chamomile tea from Trader Joe's, but I assume from the aroma that it is German Chamomile. German Chamomile Essential oil reduces inflammation, speeds the wounds healing effect, and relieves itchiness. I only use Chamomile Tea, because Chamomile Tea does not sting when it gets into my eyes, which is a big plus. :)

I hope you don't get a stye, but if you do, I hope it helps!

Happy Healthy Eye!
