Pumpkin Seed Oil

I can't believe it's already November! Can you feel short Autumn is almost over?

I want to share my little secret, Pumpkin Seed Oil, which I often use during the chillier months of the year.

Originating in China, this dark green to brown liquid gem bears the Latin name Cucurbita Maxima Duchesne. The best dosage is 20 - 50% in a blend of other carrier oils, which brings out a yummy yellowish mustard color. But don't eat it!!!

You'll have a worse tummyache than an overindulgence of Halloween sweets. The shelf life is typically 24 months after opening. I store it in the fridge to help extend its longevity. Due to its rich Vitamin E content as well as a balance of oleic/linoleic fatty acid content, the pumpkin seed oil is beneficial, deliciously regenerative, and supportive for dry, premature aging, and sunburned skin!

I use it around a 15-25% dosage because Pumpkin Seed Oil has a bit overpowered aroma, which diminishes the smell of the essential oil blend when it adds. So even though the therapeutic actions of the E.Os will still come through, you want to find a balance of the aroma.

I recently made a body cream for my dad, whose skin is getting very dry from age as well as cold, dry weather. I chose about 25% pumpkin seed oil mixed with other vegetable oils and butter along with anti-pruritic Essential oils. I hesitate to write the whole process. Maybe I should, but I tend to skip when I see the blog is getting too long. Would you?

I'll share just my recipe at this time. Let me know if you want to learn the whole process or any other part of the description. Again, this recipe is for my dad, who is 84 years old and has itchy dry skin. I only add 0.5% dilution of Essential oil for him, a good ratio for the elderly or infants. If you and your skin are healthy, you could use Essential oils up to 2% dilution. Also, I measured by spoons for easy calculate.

~ Anti-itching/ hydrating body cream (about 6 oz)

  • 1 TBSP & 2 tsp Shea Butter

  • 6 TBSP & 2 tsp Distilled Water

  • 1/2 tsp Beeswax

  • 2 tsp Aloe Vera Gel

  • 1 TBSP Pumpkin Seed Oil

  • 1 tsp Chamomile Hydrosol

  • 1 TBSP Apricot Kernel Oil

  • 1/4 & 1/8 tsp NeoDefend (Certified Organic Preservative)

  • 1 TBSP & 1 tsp Calendula infused Oil

  • 1 TBSP Emulsifying Wax

  • 6 drops Vitamin E

~Essential oil synergy: 1-2 % dilution

  • Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)

  • Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)

  • Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

  • Neroli (Citrus aurantium)

Happy holistic approach and free from toxin life!

Stay home and stay healthy.
